Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet Highlights China's Important Role for ASEAN

 The Prime Minister of Cambodia, Samdech Mohabovor Thipadei Hun Manet extoled some of China's important roles as an important part of ASEAN's growth and prosperity.

In his address at the 26th ASEAN-China Summit on Wednesday morning, September 6, 2023 in Jakarta, Indonesia, the Cambodian leader drew the meeting’s attention to the roles played by China in regional economic growth. 

The ASEAN-China Summit was chaired by Indonesian President Joko Widodo and and Chinese Premier Li Keqiang.

The meeting was also attended by Sultan Haji Hassanal Bulga, King of Brunei Darussalam, H.E Lee Hsien Loong, Prime Minister of Singapore, H.E Pham Ming Chinh, the Prime Minister of Vietnam, H.E Son Sai Siphandon, Prime Minister of Laos, H.E Ferdinand Marcos, President of the Philippines, and H.E. Anwar Ibrahim, Prime Minister of Malaysia.

Prime Minister of Timor-Leste, H.E Kay RaLa Xanana Gusmao attended as an observer. ASEAN Secretary-General Dr. Kao Kim Hourn was also invited to attend the meeting.

At the beginning of the ASEAN-China Summit, H.E Joko Widodo delivered the opening remarks and invited Chinese Premier Li Keqiang to deliver speeches.

In his keynote address at the meeting, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet, highlighted some of China's important roles for ASEAN.

Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet said that Cambodia recognizes the common interests of good relations during the nearly three decades between China and ASEAN. As for Cambodia, the Belt and Road Initiative has provided many benefits to Cambodia, especially in the areas of transportation and logistics, such as the Phnom Penh-Sihanoukville-expressway, which is an example of the achievements of the initiative.

Samdech Thipadei Prime Minister also noted the importance of the tourism sector, which is the main engine of economic growth.
